Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Family

We might be in denial that 2023 is just around the corner, but reality is we’ll be ringing in the new year in just a few days! At Beehive Meals, we like to sit down with our families and set some goals, or resolutions, before the clock strikes twelve.

We’ve gathered some of our favorite family goals that we’ve set for ourselves to share with you. We’d love to be in this together (accountability partners, anyone?).

10 Goals to bring your family together in 2023

  1. Go on more adventures. We’re not talking about a safari or a jungle cruise along the Amazon (but that would be awesome!), we just mean taking time to adventure with the people we love in our home state. This could mean setting up a monthly museum trip, or getting a pass to the zoo. Here in Utah, we have mountains galore. We want to start hiking some of those trails, taking a dip under the waterfalls, and visiting some of our 17 incredible National Parks and monuments
  2. Family game nights. We always seem to get more games for Christmas, and we’ve decided it's high time we start playing them more often, especially at the beginning and the end of the year. During the cold winter months, we have plans to put a Beehive Meals soup in the slower cooker once a week so it’s ready for game night. (Psst — if you’re looking for some new board games to add to your cupboard, check these favorites out!
  3. Be more creative. So many of us have something to do with a hobby or learning something new on our New Year’s resolutions list. But when it comes down to it, we all just want to be more creative. Plan a couple of project days with your family. Maybe that means building birdhouses together or making tye-dye t-shirts. We also love cooking as a family, taking our Beehive Meals and using them in new and creative ways. We always have fun ideas on our Instagram! @beehivemeals
  4. Eat and make healthier food. Speaking of eating, if you want to eat healthier this year, Beehive Meals is a great way to start. Using our freezer meals as your base, you’ve already got a great start to a healthy meal. We use quality ingredients, vacuum sealed for freshness, that you can store in your freezer until you’re ready to use them. Add a few veggies, fruit, and a carb if you like on the side, and wah-la! Healthy food ready for your family.
  5. Read together. We are big believers in reading together. Cuddling up on the couch with a great picture book or choosing chapter books to read aloud as a family is incredible together time. Plus, reading aloud at home brings so many benefits to our kids academically, emotionally, and even physically! It’s a lot easier to do this when your kids are young, but it’s never too late to start. Family book club anyone?
  6. Get outside. There’s nothing better for our health (mental and physical) than spending time outside. Whether you’re 1 or 92, spending just a few minutes outside can really improve your mood and spark creativity. Want to add some reward to this challenge? Check out 1,000 Hours Outside and make outside time the best time for you and your kids.
  7. Get in the photo. We have thousands of photos of our kids — but how many do we have with our kids? This is a simple goal that will mean so much to you and your posterity in the years to come. No matter what your hair looks like, jump in that photo. Turn your phone around and take a selfie of you and your kids at the playground or you and your partner as you make dinner. Want to put it in a photo album but don’t have the time? Check out Chatbooks!
  8. Set up an emergency plan. This isn’t quite as fun as the others, but it’s just as important. Make sure everyone in your family knows where to go if there’s a fire. Get a binder with all your prescriptions printed out, get those important documents in a fireproof box. If you want help getting started, the American Red Cross and the national Ready Campaign can help.
  9. Practice gratitude. There are dozens of benefits to practicing gratitude. Harvard Health did a huge study that found gratitude helps improve health, builds strong relationships, and increases resilience to adversity, among other things. The fact of the matter is, gratitude makes you happier! It doesn’t have to be anything grand. Maybe go around the dinner table every night and say something you’re grateful for. Or, start a gratitude journal together. One day you’ll look back on what your three-year-old said they were most grateful for that day and you’ll get a laugh.
  10. Say “I love you” more often. Along with expressing gratitude, saying I love you goes a long way to improving your relationships. If you want to strengthen your bond with your partner, this is an easy way to get started. You can keep it super simple and send a text once a day that says, “I love you,” or go big and learn what your partner's Love Language is, and express your adoration that way. Oh, and guess what? It means the world to kids when their parents say they love them. Start saying it more!

You can start today!

The great thing about goals and resolutions is you can start whenever you want. I mean, why not start today? Whether you choose one or twenty goals for the coming year, we want to encourage you to make them intentional. Sit down with your partner and your kids and choose goals that bring you together, improve your health, and make you laugh.

We can’t wait to hear about what you choose! Tag us on Instagram in your photos of you and your family making and keeping goals.
